A TIN is mandatory for: filing tax returns, opening a business bank account, obtaining certain licenses and permits, and conducting business transactions above certain thresholds.

Steps to Register for a TIN

  • Visit the FIRS website at www.firs.gov.ng

  • Click on "Register for TIN" and select your category (Individual or Business)

  • Fill out the registration form with your personal/business information

  • Submit required documents (national ID, proof of address, etc.)

  • Wait for confirmation - TIN is issued immediately upon successful registration

Required Documents

  • Valid National ID or International Passport

  • Proof of residence (utility bill or bank statement)

  • Business registration documents (for businesses)
